While summer opportunities won’t start for another 5 or 6 months, the application deadlines are already here!
Opportunities abound, including classes and internships at national laboratories, universities, and in industry. For a broad sampling, check out the lists provided by Science magazine, Science.gov, Wired, and the American Physical Society.
One great way for U.S. undergraduates to gain research experience is through a National Science Foundation program called Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU). REU sites are all over the country and may also have an international component. If you are looking for a local program, consider also speaking to teachers and school career counselors, who often have the best sense of what opportunities are available (e.g., the Girls Go Techknow program in Westchester County, NY).
